Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband Robert Vadra is at the center of controversy as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is raising questions on the validity of his declared assets. BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that the assets listed in Priyanka’s election affidavit were much less than her and Vadra’s actual value.
Bhatia asserted, “Robert Vadra’s assets declared in the election affidavit are less than what is demanded by the Income Tax Department.” 75 crores. He described Priyanka’s affidavit as an “admission of corruption” by the Gandhi family.
Priyanka Gandhi’s Electoral Debut
On Thursday, Priyanka Gandhi filed her nomination for the Wayanad bypoll, marking her official entry into electoral politics. However, his debut was overshadowed by fierce criticism from the BJP, which termed his candidature as “a victory of dynastic politics and a defeat of meritocracy”.
According to her affidavit, Priyanka Gandhi’s total income was more than 46.39 lakh in the 2023-2024 financial year, which includes rental income and interest from banks and other investments.
The Congress candidate has also declared that her husband Vadra has movable assets worth more than Immovable property worth more than Rs 37.9 crore 27.64 crore, his actual valuation raised eyebrows in the BJP.
BJP expressed concern over values of property of Gandhi family
Gaurav Bhatia alleged that Priyanka Gandhi downplayed his Shimla residence, a claim that has given rise to widespread allegations of financial irregularities.
“He has also shown the price of his house in Shimla to be much lower than that,” the BJP spokesperson alleged.
The BJP leader also questioned the legality of property transactions of the Gandhi family – Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi – and said, “There are some restrictions on buying property in Himachal Pradesh, but for the Gandhi family the rules were reversed.”
“These are people with SUVs and farmhouses, big vehicles and big bungalows… but they do not reveal the true value of their assets,” the BJP leader said.
BJP demands accountability from Congress
The BJP has stepped up its demand for transparency from the Gandhi family and has stressed that they will have to disclose the sources of their wealth. “The entire nation is asking Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to give details of their ill-gotten wealth. In return for ‘lost commission’? Robert Vadra is crime master gogo. If he has come, he will take something with him. Please tell the nation about it,” Bhatia announced.
