‘Religious sentiments cannot be hurt’, who gave this statement on Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’?

Date:

New Delhi: Ever since the trailer of Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ was released, there has been a controversy over the content of the film. The film is being accused of inciting religious sentiments. Now top government sources have said that actress Kangana Ranaut’s next film ‘Emergency’ has some sensitive content, due to which religious sentiments cannot be hurt.

Government sources told CNN-AyraNews24x7, “Some content in the film is sensitive. This is a serious issue related to people’s sentiments. Some religious organizations have expressed concern. Religious sentiments cannot be hurt.” Ranaut, a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, has played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, although she said last week that her film has not received approval from the censor board.

Screening of film ‘Emergency’ challenged
The actress claimed in a video message posted on X that she and the CBFC members have received threats. They are under pressure not to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi by Sikh bodyguards in 1984 in the film. The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday issued notice to Kangana Ranaut, the central government, the censor board and others on a PIL challenging the screening of ‘Emergency’ on the ground that objection has been raised over a scene in the film.

The PIL will be heard on September 3
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) states that there are scenes in ‘Emergency’ that violate the fundamental rights of the Sikh community and an unconditional apology has been demanded from the lead actress and other responsible persons in the film. The court has fixed the next date of hearing on Tuesday (September 3).
