Discussing his perspective on the progress of South cinema, Rakesh Roshan said, “South films are very grassroots. They are continuing the old-school format of song-action-dialogue-emotions. They are not progressing. Technically, they are, but from a storytelling standpoint, they’re sticking to the same formulas that work, they’re successful because they’re not breaking any ground.

He further said that while Bollywood takes risks, South cinema remains safe. He said, “We are breaking our own path. After making Kaho Na…Pyaar Hai, I didn’t want to make romantic films again. Reddit reacted to Rakesh Roshan’s statement

Rakesh Roshan’s comment has drawn criticism on Reddit. One user commented, “Bollywood’s own ego is its downfall.” Another user wrote, “Generally regional cinema is much more inventive than commercial Bollywood.
