The latest notice from RBI states that banks will now have to use only phone numbers starting with 1600 for all transaction-related calls. To put it in other words, if you get a call regarding any transaction or any other financial matter, it should only come from a number starting with 1600. This measure will help people to stay away from fraudulent calls.
For marketing calls and SMS
The way RBI has allotted number series starting from 1600 for banking services. Similarly, RBI has also earmarked phone number series starting from 140 exclusively for marketing calls and SMS notifications to customers. So, if a bank is actually offering you services like personal loan, credit card or insurance, you can expect them to be with numbers starting with 140.
This step will help users avoid fraudsters who falsely claim to provide loans or credit cards on behalf of banks.
