One of the internet’s favorite mother-in-law-daughter-in-law combinations is back on screen. Ratna Pathak Shah and Rupali Ganguly reprized their popular characters of Maya Sarabhai and Monisha Sarabhai respectively from Aatish Kapadia’s cult comedy show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai for a new Flipkart ad. What’s in the ad?
In the ad, Ratna and Monisha are in their characters’ getups – the former wearing a beautiful saree, boat-neck blouse and a blunt cut in Maya Sarabhai fashion, and the latter wearing a red salwar suit like Monisha. -White scarf. They are at a shop, where Maya lists a bunch of discounted grocery items and claims they are from Monisha’s maika (parents’ home).
Monisha then explains to Maya how all the items are getting discounts due to the offers going on at Flipkart. She also refers to a jar of peanut butter as “peanut sauce”, to which Maya rolls her eyes. The two then dance together to celebrate the Flipkart deal.
The internet couldn’t stop their excitement after seeing Maya-Monisha reunite. One user commented, “Mummy ji and Monisha (green and red heart emojis).” Another wrote, “Saw Monisha and Maya together after such a long time.” “Love them together (red heart emoji). Best ad ever (bow emoji),” read a third comment.
About Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai first premiered on Star One in 2004 and its first season ended in 2006. It was renewed for a new season (Take 2) in 2017 on Disney+ Hotstar. The show is written by Aatish Kapadia and directed by him and Deven Bhojani. It was produced by Jamnadas Majethia’s Hats Off Productions. It also starred Satish Shah, Sumeet Raghavan and Rajesh Kumar as Indravardhan, Sahil and Rosesh Sarabhai respectively. While Maya was written as an upper-class socialite, her daughter-in-law Monisha was a middle-class housewife.
Ratna Pathak Shah recently arrived at the Cannes Film Festival with her husband Naseeruddin Shah for the screening of Shyam Benegal’s 1976 classic film Manthan. Meanwhile, Rupali Ganguly recently joined BJP.
