As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, it becomes important to prioritize self-care amid spiritual devotion. Discover essential self-care rituals for your well-being during this sacred time.

1. Prioritizing mental health

The month of Ramadan can sometimes seem challenging, but also incredibly rewarding as you adjust to earlier mornings, changes in daily routine, and fasting. During this time, focus on ways to prioritize your well-being and self-care activities that work best for you and your family.

2. Listen to your body

Altered energy levels are another effect of fasting, and for some people, this may mean taking more naps. Other people want to be outside (safely) and enjoy it too. Spend some time a day with your family to assess their needs. These can be excellent self-care practices.

3. Have a nutritious iftar

The evening meal, known as iftar, is equally important for replenishing nutrients and energy. For an instant energy boost, break your fast with some dates or a small piece of fruit. It can be tempting to eat a big lunch while fasting for long periods of time and going about your daily chores. Instead, avoid it and eat a balanced diet of whole grains, vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats in small amounts.

Ramadan provides a special opportunity for reflection and spiritual growth. Set aside time each day for reflection, prayer, and recitation of the Quran. This will strengthen your relationship with God. To build inner peace and tranquility, practice mindfulness through meditation or dhikr (recollection of God). 5. Movement and exercise

Maintaining physical activity throughout Ramadan is essential for overall health and vitality, even during fasting periods. During times when you’re not fasting, incorporate light to moderate exercise such as yoga, stretching or walking to improve your flexibility, circulation and mental clarity. To avoid fatigue and dehydration, listen to your body’s signals and modify the duration and intensity of your exercise accordingly.
