Ambikapur. You must have heard about many historical heritage of Chhattisgarh, but Raghunath Palace of Surguja is unique in itself. This palace was built before 1895, but in 1895 it was given full size and was named Raghunath Palace after the then Maharaj Raghunath Sharan Singhdev of Surguja. This palace is cherished by thousands of memories. Over time the palace has become old, cracks have come in the walls, but still it is amazing. A wonderful heritage can be experienced by seeing this.
Queen Vijeshwari played an important role
The credit for the construction and decoration of this palace goes to Maharani Vijeshwari. Queen Vijeshwari was from the royal family of Nepal and was married in the Surguja royal family. He prepared a map on the lines of Nepal’s Palace and entrusted the team of engineers to build the construction. Govind Sharma, who has been in the courtyard of the Palace and close to the royal family, says that the palace was spread over 11 acres of land, including the Botanical Garden. The palace has 7 courtyards and a well next to the main gate. Every courtyard of this palace and everything has its own story.
Palace specialty
The first courtyard comes as soon as the palace goes inside, which has glass doors. Behind this door is the brass ladder, which was the shortcut route of the Maharaja’s court and the Queen’s room. Maharaj was very restricted of time, so this ladder was built. Whenever the Queen had some work from Maharaj, she would come through this path and speak her point. A call bell was also installed in the court to inform Maharaj.
Palace in the court
The court is adjacent to the first courtyard, in which the bodies of hundreds of man -eating animals are hanging as fetish. Maharaj was a world -renowned hunter and was troubled by the terror of man -eating animals, many princely states used to call him on hunting. Maharaj used to bring wild animals from all over the world and bring his skin with him, which can still be seen inside Raghunath Palace. Large chandeliers and weapons that are inaugurated with gems are still the pride of Raghunath Palace. There are many memories of the past here which can be seen and felt.
