Dr. Pramod Tripathi explains why we should consume proteins and vegetables before carbohydrates – this approach can help relieve diabetes symptoms.
Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the pancreas is unable to produce enough of the insulin needed by the body. Or sometimes, the body is unable to use all the insulin produced. Insulin helps control blood sugar levels in the body. The most common symptoms of diabetes are fatigue, weight loss, blurred vision, excessive thirst and frequent urination. In some cases, there may be no symptoms at all. There are two types of diabetes – type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. However, with proper lifestyle and dietary changes, diabetes symptoms can be managed. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Pramod Tripathi, founder of Freedom From Diabetes, explains how the order of meals when we eat can help deal with diabetes symptoms.

Eat proteins and vegetables before carbohydrates:
Dr. Pramod Tripathi explains, “The order in which we eat can play an important role in controlling sugar levels. Studies have shown that eating proteins and vegetables before carbohydrates is effective. Science shows that since proteins and vegetables take longer to digest, they delay the release of glucose into the bloodstream, which can reduce the peak blood sugar levels that usually occur after a carbohydrate-rich meal.”
