Prince Harry declines King Charles’ invitation during UK visit

Date:

Prince Harry declined King Charles’ invitation to stay at the royal residence during his visit to Britain, while suggesting his father was too busy to meet him. The revelation comes from The Telegraph, which revealed that the Duke of Sussex declined the invitation due to security concerns.

Harry spent three nights in London for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games but did not see the king. Earlier it was reported that he had met his father during the journey. Eventually father and son became busy in different programs.

The publication reported that Charles allowed his younger son to live in the royal residence because he no longer had an official home in the UK. If accepted, this could have been a chance to spend time together. However, the Duke declined, opting for a hotel instead to maintain privacy due to the lack of security, the publication said.

The royal residences are heavily guarded by armed officers at the gates. However, the Duke was primarily concerned with his safety outside these properties. According to The Telegraph, Harry was upset about losing his automatic police protection, which was hindering a reunion with his father.

Harry will need to give at least 28 days’ notice, including all travel details, before traveling to the UK for a security assessment. Most of his requests have been denied, except for visits related to royal events such as coronations.

Harry is concerned about safety

In February, the 75-year-old king received a police escort from Heathrow to Clarence House to meet him after he was diagnosed with cancer. However, they did not receive any protection during their journey from residence to hotel.

According to The Telegraph, Harry feels he cannot bring his wife and children to the UK because he cannot ensure their safety. He is disappointed that his offer to pay for his own security was rejected.
