India’s deal with Singapore for partnership in the semiconductor fieldNow it will be easier for Singapore companies to enter IndiaIndia can be part of Singapore’s semiconductor value chain
PM Modi Singapore Deal: During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore, a deal has been struck between the two countries regarding partnership in the semiconductor field. The agreement in the field of semiconductors was signed in the presence of the Prime Ministers of both the countries. Now after this agreement, the way for entry of Singapore’s semiconductor companies in India will become easier.
The two countries have named this agreement as India Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Singapore counterpart Lawrence Wong visited AEM Holdings Limited, a Singapore-based company in the semiconductor and electronics sector in Delhi on Thursday, September 5. PM Modi discussed ways of cooperation in this important industry.
There will be many benefits from semiconductor connection with Singapore…
India will get many benefits from this agreement in the field of semiconductors. First, India will get help in developing talent in the field of semiconductors. Singapore universities have also developed customized courses in the field of semiconductors and India can take advantage of this.
Apart from this, information related to waste management of semiconductor industrial parks will also be shared. Singapore has a shortage of land and workers, whereas India has a lot of land and skilled labor. In such a situation, India can become a part of Singapore’s semiconductor value chain. Singapore companies can be encouraged to expand in India.
Singapore also manufactures equipment related to semiconductors. Singapore companies will help in creating a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Singapore is a small urban country but despite this, there is a network of semiconductor industry.
What is a semiconductor and why is it so important?
Singapore contributes 10% to global semiconductor output. Singapore contributes 20% to global production of semiconductor equipment. The semiconductor sector contributes 8% to Singapore’s economic growth. 9 of the world’s 15 largest semiconductor firms have opened shop.
Apart from the agreement in the semiconductor sector in the presence of PM Modi, PM Modi also visited the AEM Semiconductor Facility along with PM Wang of Singapore and explored the possibilities in semiconductor manufacturing between the two countries.
Semiconductors are used in various electrical devices such as smartphones, chips, computing, smart TVs. These semiconductors are made from silicon, gallium arsenide etc. Their job is to allow free flow of electricity. They are also used in memory devices, microprocessors and CMOS sensors.
