‘Personal opinion’: BJP distances itself from Ananth Kumar Hegde’s remarks

The Bharatiya Janata Party has distanced itself from the controversial remarks made by its Karnataka MP Ananth Kumar Hegde regarding the Indian Constitution. The ruling party has termed his comments as his personal opinion and has also sought clarification. BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said on Sunday that taking cognizance of his statement, the party has sought clarification from him.

The controversial remarks made by Hegde have sparked a political controversy in the state, with the Congress accusing the BJP and RSS of having a “hidden and devious” agenda to “rewrite and destroy” the Constitution.

“BJP MP Ananth Kumar Hegde has given a statement. It must be clarified: The statement reflects his personal views and is not a statement that reflects the views of the BJP with clarity. The party has taken cognizance of this statement of Mr. Hegde and has also sought clarification from him. It must be reiterated that every step taken by the BJP, every decision taken by the BJP is always in the interest of our country and in line with the spirit of the Constitution,” BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia told ANI on Sunday.

‘If the Constitution has to be amended…’: Ananthkumar Hegde

Addressing a gathering in Uttara Kannada district, Ananth Kumar Hegde said, “If the Constitution has to be amended – then the Congress which basically distorted the Constitution by filling in unnecessary things, especially by bringing laws aimed at suppressing Hindus Was.” Society – if all this has to change then it is not possible with this (current) majority.”

In his statement, Hegde said the party would have to secure a two-thirds majority in the upper and lower houses of Parliament and come to power in more than 20 states to amend the Constitution.

Referring to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the six-time Lok Sabha member from Karnataka said the NDA’s victory on over 400 seats in the upcoming general elections will help the party get an equal majority in the Rajya Sabha and gain two seats. One third of the states.
