Parvati’s response
Talking about the report, he said, “The sense of achievement for us is extremely bitter-sweet, mainly because the first testimony happened in 2018 and the report was tabled in 2019. It took so many years for this to come out. The edited version of it. Over these years, we had to really beg, plead and fight. There were allies from the public and the media who had to join this fight and say ‘Wait, why are you hiding this from us? Why is this not coming out?'”
“Some sensational things were also spread on this. Whereas, [Justice] The Hema Commission report is a study of the irregularities in the film industry, which will help us understand why it was formed and why the report was prepared so that work can be done towards creating a better workplace culture, workplace practices that are defined by the government so that no one goes against the law. Now, I think, sometimes people think about whether it is right or wrong. [Justice] Hema Commission. They are focusing more on the sensational aspects of it. So, it is still a struggle for us to focus on the film and say, ‘No no no, we should apply our minds and hearts to what the matter is’,” said the actor, who recently won the Best Actress award at the International Film Festival of Melbourne for her film Ullozhukku.
Calling it a beginning, Parvati believes that now is the time to speak about many things. And she knows that it is not a happy thing to read, but recording the findings in the report adds more gravity to it.
Here, he said that this is not an “exposé” of the Malayalam film industry, and insisted that the industry is good from within, adding, “The places you don’t get to hear anything about, that is where we should be worried.”
