Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched the Nua-O Scholarship Scheme for students pursuing postgraduate and general degree programmes.
During an interaction with school children at the ‘Nu-O Utsav’ in Deogarh, VK Pandian, Chairman, Nabeen Odisha Program and 5T (Transformational Initiatives) informed about the distribution of Nua-O scholarship funds in Deogarh district.
The online registration portal for this card will be launched on March 5 and the distribution of the card will take place on August 15.
Nua-O scheme in Odisha aims to provide opportunities for continuous skill development, reskilling and upskilling to young persons.
As per the instructions of CM Naveen Patnaik, VK Pandian visited Angul and Devgarh districts. He participated in the Nua-O Scholarship Distribution Program in these districts, where he interacted with students of 57 colleges of Sambalpur, Angul and Deogarh districts and provided information about the Nua-O Scholarship.
Eligibility
This scholarship benefits all eligible PG and UG students from state government universities, government colleges, non-government aided and unaided colleges. The scholarship amount for General and OBC male and female students is Rs 9,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, while for SC/ST and Construction Workers male and female students it is Rs 10,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively.
Pandian said that 13,423 students of 21 colleges of Sambalpur district, 11,265 students of 25 colleges of Angul district and 3,424 students of 11 colleges of Deogarh district will receive the scholarship amount in their bank accounts today. Along with this Rs. Rs 28.00 crore has been sanctioned for 28,112 students of these three districts. He distributed Nua-O scholarship acceptance orders to the students.
Pandian said the decade 2024-34 will be an era of empowerment for the youth, as the state government works towards achieving the goal of Nua Odisha.
Pandian said the next major initiative of the government will be to cover all students through the launch of the future Nabin Odisha Magic Card, a point-system based smart card that will engage and empower the youth and guide them towards academic growth, personality development Will enable. Skill development and employment.
This will create a platform for the youth to dream and achieve their dreams. It will encourage and empower the youth by providing them physical and digital access to resources that will help in their career growth and personality development.
This card will work as a ‘passport of prosperity’. Based on points earned through various activities and parameters, the cards will be upgraded to Silver, Gold and Platinum levels.
The allotment and upgradation of the card will depend on the performance of the student in terms of attendance, discipline, academic achievements, participation in extra-curricular activities, sports, online courses, personality development courses and much more.

These cards may provide access to a variety of amenities, including: bus/train/flight concessions; Phone/data recharge and Wi-Fi access; e-library; online educational courses; Personality Development Courses and Workshops; Coaching centers and tuition classes; skill development courses; Career Counseling; Language courses including Oriya and English; ‘Earn while you learn’ opportunities; volunteer opportunities; Access to stadiums during national and international tournaments; Access to magazines and seminars; Access to tourist places, museums etc.”
The card will also provide job and placement opportunities by sharing data with potential recruiting companies, creating a LinkedIn-type platform for students to interact with the industry. It will integrate with the startup ecosystem, encourage students to become entrepreneurs, and also provide preferential loans to students under various schemes like SWAYAM etc.
The government will actively engage with the private sector to provide more benefits to students through these smart cards.
