One of these tourist places is Tharkot Lake, 7 kilometers away from Pithoragarh city, where many people are coming these days to enjoy boating.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated
This 750 meter long artificial lake has become a center of special attraction these days. People are coming here with their families to enjoy boating and sightseeing. This lake, built on the banks of Tanakpur National Highway in Pithoragarh, has also been the dream project of former Cabinet Minister Late Prakash Pant, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kumaon in October 2023.
Local people are getting employment
With the construction of this lake, tourism will not only increase here but the local people will also get employment. Water is also to be supplied to the city from this lake, which will also solve the problem of drinking water. Local people were waiting for the construction of this lake for a long time. Local resident Anand Bora told Local 18 that after the construction of the lake, employment opportunities have opened up for the local people. Seeing boats moving in the lake is also a pleasant feeling for them.
Water sports will start soon
The Tourism Department is also preparing to start other water sports in Tharkot Lake. In the beginning, 6 boats are being operated here, which the people here are enjoying. While giving information to Local 18, District Tourism Officer Kirti Arya said that in future the number of boats will be increased here and the department will provide full help to the people here in connecting them with employment by giving them training in water sports.
It is noteworthy that the people of Pithoragarh were waiting for Tharkot Lake for the last decade. With the construction of the lake, local people are expected to get better employment. So, the tourists coming to Pithoragarh are also liking this lake a lot.
