West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on January 19 that her government would not implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) initiative.
He also said that the state government provides separate cards to those whose Aadhaar card has been deactivated.

Responding to questions claiming that people whose Aadhaar cards are being deactivated should report to the BJP office, he said that this is a fascist kind of order.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the Citizenship Amendment Act passed by Parliament in December 2019 will be notified and implemented before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
