The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC has not approved any new medical colleges or increased UG/PG seats in various medical courses for the academic year 2024-25.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) on April 11 said it has not yet approved any new medical colleges or increase in the number of undergraduate or postgraduate seats in medical courses for 2024-25, otherwise terming it as “fake news”. The reports suggesting this have been rejected. The applications received for this academic year are still under processing. The commission said in a public notice that any decision in the matter, as and when taken, will be immediately uploaded on the NMC website.
“The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), NMC, has so far not approved any new medical colleges or increase in UG/PG seats in various medical courses for the academic year 2024-25,” it said. MARB allows setting up of a new medical institute, or starting a postgraduate course or increasing the number of seats.
112 applications were received for establishment of new medical colleges in 2024-25, besides 58 applications for increase in MBBS seats in existing medical colleges. “Recently it has been observed that there are some fake news in print/electronic media regarding establishment of new medical colleges and grant of UG/PG seats in various medical courses.”
The public notice issued on April 10 said, “In view of the above facts, all stakeholders/general public are requested not to pay attention to or rely on any misleading or baseless news published in print/electronic media Take some cognizance.”
