Finance Minister Nirmala Sitarman, while presenting her eighth consecutive union budget, wore an elegant saree in Parliament, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India. Sari, adorned with complex Madhubani artwork, was a thoughtful gift of Padma Shri Awardee Duleri Devi, a symbol of a tribute to centuries -old art form and her skilled artisans, as reported by news agency Annie.
Honoring the wishes of the 53 -year -old artist, Sithraman chose hand -painted saree for a historic occasion, giving a strong statement about India’s rich artistic traditions. Over the years, she often uses her dress to highlight India’s diverse textile heritage, which reflects the cultural heritage of different fields.
Who is Dulari Devi?
A famous Madhubani artist and Padma Shri-Lorat, Dulary Devi met the Union Finance Minister during a credit outreach event at Mithila Arts in Madhubani, Bihar. He had a meaningful discussion with Nirmala Sitarman about the cultural significance of Madhubani art. In a hearty gesture, the goddess presented a hand -painted saree to Sithraman, in which expressed its desire on a special occasion.
Devi said, “I did not dream of seeing my sari reaching the portals of Parliament. But this has happened. This is a great gesture on the Finance Minister’s part to bless me. “Sitarman, who is known to highlight India’s textile heritage through its certificate options, made a symbolic statement by donating a traditional hand -painted saree, showing India’s rich artistic traditions.
The life story of Dulari Devi is one of flexibility and determination. Married at the age of 13, when her husband left her at the age of 16 after her baby daughter’s death, she faced a lot of difficulty. Despite never going to school or learning to study and write, he carried on Madhubani art emotionally, who takes inspiration from famous painters such as Mahasundari Devi and Karpuri Devi. Their work is displayed in many exhibitions, often displayed by social messages on issues such as child marriage, HIV/AIDS awareness, and women conflicts.
A self-affected artist of a fishing community is traditionally not associated with painting, the goddess has trained over 1,000 budding artists in Madhubani art, ensuring that the legacy of the craft continues. In 2021, he also presented his artwork to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed his gratitude and shared his meeting on social media.
On Budget Day, Sithraman also announced the creation of a Makhna Board to support Mithila farmers along with training, financial assistance and other resources. Additionally, Paschimi Kosi Nahar scheme was unveiled, promising to provide irrigation for 50,000 hectares, further benefits the Mithila region. These initiatives were seen as a tribute to the cultural and agricultural heritage of Bihar, with the thoughtful gestures of the Finance Minister.

Madhubani art, also known as Mithila painting, is a traditional folk art, which originates from the Mithila region of Bihar, India. Budget 2025
The Union Budget 2025 was presented by the Finance Minister on Saturday, 1 February at 11 am, which is a symbol of his eighth consecutive budget presentation. This milestone makes him the first Finance Minister in Indian history to achieve this achievement, which crosses the previous record of Morji Desai’s six consecutive budgets.
The Union Budget 2025-2026 introduced large-scale relief for income tax payers. The Finance Minister announced that no income tax will be payable for those people for income 1.2 million.
