The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained two teachers running a private coaching centre in Latur district in connection with alleged irregularities in the conduct of medical entrance exam NEET-UG, an official said on Sunday.
According to a PTI report, the agency’s Nanded unit detained the two on Saturday night and released them after hours of questioning. According to the official, one of the teachers works at a government school in Latur district.
It has been learned that if needed, ATS will call the teachers again.
The ATS move comes against the backdrop of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registering its own First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday in connection with irregularities in the NEET UG exam following a complaint from the Education Ministry.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CBI teams will visit Bihar and Gujarat to investigate the “larger conspiracy” surrounding the NEET-UG exam 2024.
The Center had decided to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI on Saturday. Issuing a statement in this regard, the Center said, “For transparency in the examination process, the Ministry of Education has decided to hand over the case to the CBI for a comprehensive investigation after review.”
Apart from this, the Ministry of Education has also constituted a high-level committee of experts headed by former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan to ensure transparent, smooth and fair conduct of examinations. The ministry had said in its statement that the committee will recommend improvements in the examination process, improvement in data security protocols and improvement in the structure and functioning of NTA. The committee has been tasked to submit its report within two months.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday postponed the NEET PG exam citing “precautionary measures”. NEET PG is another national level entrance exam to be postponed in June after UGC NET and CSIR NET.
