Earlier today, the Centre told the Supreme Court that the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates seeking admission to medical colleges will be cancelled after they were awarded grace marks for a wrong question.
The decision has been taken following allegations of widespread irregularities and unfair marking in the national medical entrance examinations.
“A committee met on June 10, 11 and 12 to look into the allegations. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the scorecards of the affected candidates will be cancelled and a re-examination will be conducted for these students,” the government told the Supreme Court.
While refusing to stay the counselling of NEET-UG, 2024, scheduled to begin on July 6, the SC clarified that admission of successful candidates to medical colleges and other institutions will be subject to the outcome of petitions seeking relief on grounds of question paper leak and other malpractices.
“Counselling will take place as per schedule and there will be no disruption. If the exam continues, everything else will also continue, so there is no reason to worry,” the Supreme Court said.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged irregularities in NEET, saying that the future of 24 lakh students appearing for the NEET-UG 2024 exam is at stake due to the actions of the Modi government.
The exam was held on May 5 at 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14, but were announced on June 4 as the evaluation of answer sheets had already been completed.
