NEET PG 2024: NBEMS announces normalisation process for results. Know how it will affect your score | Mint

Date:

NEET PG 2024: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducted the NEET PG exam 2024 on Sunday, August 11, in two shifts—the first from 9 am to 12:30 pm and the second from 3:30 pm to 7 pm—instead of the usual one shift format. With the new system, NBEMS released a notice explaining the normalisation process adopted by the medical examination board for preparing the results.

“NBEMS has adopted the procedure which is currently being used by AIIMS-New Delhi for various examinations conducted in more than one shift including INI-CET in preparation of NEET-PG 2024 result,” the NBEMS notice said.

NBEMS cited a notification from AIIMS Delhi dated January 20, 2023, which said that the percentile score is considered as the normalized score for the exam.

NEET PG 2024 Normalization/Percentile Score

Standardization The score or percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or less than that particular percentile (same or less raw score) in that exam. Therefore, the topper (highest score) of each group (shift) will get the same percentage of 100, which is desirable. The marks obtained between the highest and lowest scores are converted to the appropriate percentage.

Candidates must note that the exam results for each shift will be prepared in the form of raw marks and percentage. Percentage marks will be calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid bunching effect and reduce ties.

NEET PG 2024 Normalization: Process

In this method of scoring, the highest mark in each paper (irrespective of the raw marks/percentage obtained) will be 100 percentile, which indicates that 100% of the candidates have scored marks equal to or less than the highest scorer/topper of that shift.

For example, in Shift 1, if the highest score is 80%; in Shift 2, if the highest score is 82%; in Shift 3, if the highest score is 78%; and in Shift 4, if the highest score is 79%, then all the highest scores will be normalized into 100 percentile for their respective group/shift.

The percentage of lowest score will depend on the total number of candidates who took the exam. Suppose 100000 students took the exam in a shift and the highest score for that group/shift is (A) 160/200 (80%), and the lowest score is (B) – 3/200 (-1.5%).

If no other candidate has equal marks as that of A or B, then the percentage mark of candidate A securing the highest marks will be 100. [because all or 100% of candidates have scored EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN A],

Percentage of candidates B securing the lowest marks will be 0.001, as will be the percentage of candidates securing equal or less marks than him. [(1/100000) *100],

If the raw score of a candidate (C) is the same as that of A, then the percentage score of both A and C will be 100.

Similarly, if the raw score of another candidate (D) is equal to that of B, then the percentage score of both B and D will be 0.002 [(2/100000) *100]Therefore, the tie percentage will also be the same.

The tie will be resolved as per the scheme of examination published in the prospectus. If it is not mentioned in the prospectus, the elder in age will be given higher rank in case of a tie.
