The medical entrance exam NEET-UG has become the centre of controversies as several irregularities have been alleged regarding the exam. From students demanding re-NEET to demands for a CBI probe, grace marks, paper leaks to now political controversies, let’s know what has happened regarding this exam so far.
1. The On June 14, the Supreme Court… The Centre and NTA have been asked to respond to a petition seeking a CBI probe into allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities in the exam. It said these petitions will be considered along with other pending petitions on July 8.
2. As per the report PTIToday, 20 students have filed a petition in the Supreme Court, requesting the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam. It has also demanded an inquiry by the CBI or any other independent agency, under the supervision of the Supreme Court, into the alleged irregularities in the examination held on May 5. The students who filed the petition had appeared in the medical entrance exam, they have also sought a direction to the NTA and others to conduct a fresh examination.
3. Earlier on Thursday, the Centre had informed the apex court that the decision to grant grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS and other courses has been revoked. It also informed that the NTA has decided to re-conduct the NEET (UG) exam. 1563 candidates Candidates who have experienced time loss can opt for re-examination on June 23. The results of the re-examination will be declared on June 30. However, the Centre said that if a candidate wishes to opt out of the re-examination, their previous marks, barring the grace marks, will be considered for result purposes.

8. Not only have there been protests among students regarding NEET, but the opposition has also launched a scathing attack on the BJP government. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the BJP of attacking the dreams of the youth as soon as it took oath. Digvijay Singh has demanded an investigation and demanded the cancellation of the entire exam.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav also launched a scathing attack on the central government and said whether there is a BJP government at the Centre or in the state, paper leak is “inevitable”. Calling it a serious matter, Yadav wrote on X, “The accused in custody is admitting that the paper has been leaked. Candidates, parents, students and youth are all worried. The entire system is suspicious, but the NDA government is so immersed in arrogance that it is completely ignoring the credibility of examinations in the country.” Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, who has been demanding a ban on NEET from the beginning, said, “Tamil Nadu was the first to say that NEET is a scam and now the whole country has started saying so, he said while speaking at a function of the School Education Department here. “We will definitely end it one day. It is our responsibility. Society, financial or political status should not become a hindrance to your education. This is the aim of mine and our Dravidian governance model.”
10. Amid the controversy, several people have been arrested in various states. PTI According to reports, on June 14, five people, including a school principal and a teacher, were arrested in Godhra town of Gujarat’s Panchmahal district for allegedly trying to help 27 candidates clear NEET-UG in exchange for a sum of Rs 10 lakh. Each will get Rs 10 lakh.
