‘Muslims to avoid sacrifice on Bakrid’, the king of this country issued a decree

Morocco News: King Mohammed VI of Morocco has appealed to the general public not to sacrifice the sheep during Eid ul-Azha i.e. Bakrid. There has been a significant decline in the number of sheep.

Rabat: King Mohammad VI of Morocco has appealed not to sacrifice Eid ul-Azha (Bakrid) this year. The reason for this has been explained to the huge shortage of cattle in the country and the drought released for seven years. The number of sheep in Morocco has reduced by 38% in the last decade. This year, the rainfall was 53% less than the average, causing the condition of pastures. This deepened the problem of cattle fodder and declined in meat production. Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid is an important festival in Islam. On this day, sheep, goat or other animals are sacrificed in the Muslim community and its meat is distributed among the family and the poor. But this year the King has appealed that the public has changed this tradition according to the circumstances.

King Mohammed VI appeals to public

Ahmed Taufiq, Minister of Religious Affairs of Morocco, read King’s message on National Television on Wednesday. He said, “Our priority is to make religious traditions smooth, but we have to keep in mind the climate and economic challenges.”

To control the rising meat prices, the Morocco government has signed an agreement to import 100,000 sheep from Australia. In addition, the government has removed import duty and VAT on cattle, sheep, camels and red meat, so that prices remain stable in the domestic market.

Such an order has come before

This is not the first time this has happened. In 1966, King Hasan II also appealed a similar appeal when Morocco had to face long drought. Experts believe that this decision is necessary to maintain economic and social balance.
