Mumbai has reported its first case of Guleen-Baire Syndrome (GBS), increasing the cases of neighboring city of Pune. A 64 -year -old woman has been infected, confirming BMC officials.
talking to PTIBrihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and its state-appointed administrator Bhushan Gagrani confirmed that the 64-year-old woman GBS patient was currently treating the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Civic-Run Hospital.
BMC officials said that the woman, who lives in the Andheri Eastern region of the city, was admitted to the hospital with a history of fever and diarrhea, after which paralysis was followed. More information about the patient is awaited.
The number of suspected GBS deaths in Pune district of Maharashtra was at six, while the counting of suspected cases was 173.
What is Guilan-Baire syndrome?
GBS is a rare autoimmune state where the immune system accidentally attacks peripheral veins, which contain symptoms such as numbness, tingling and muscle weakness that can progress to muscle paralysis.
In serious examples, it can spoil breathing, requiring ventilator help. The mortality rate is from 3 to 13%, which is affected by severity and access to quality medical care.
In GBS, serious cases can only result in total paralysis. The prevalence of this disorder is more common in adults and men, although people of all ages can be affected.
