Mounjaro hits shelves in India: How Ellie Lily’s weight loss drug is compared to ozmpic – price, side effects and more. Mint

Date:

Elli Lily Weight Loss Drug: Ellie Lily has introduced a weekly injectable drug, Munjaro (tirizeptide) for obesity and type 2 diabetes in India after receiving approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). Targeting both Mounjaro GLP-1 and GIP receptors, it is notable for its dual-action mechanisms, which increases its effectiveness in blood sugar level management.

While ozmpic is often prescribed off-labeled for weight loss, Munjaro’s acceptance especially keeps it as a more targeted option for the management of obesity.

Let’s look closely how these two medicines compare in terms of efficacy, side effects and use.

What are Mounjaro and OzEmpic?

Ozmpic (semglutide) is a brand-nam injection pen used to treat type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) is a brand-name subcutaneous injection pen that is also used to treat type 2 diabetes.

  • Mounjaro: Tirzepatide, a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist.
  • Ozmpic: This includes semaglutide, a GLP -1 receptor agonist.

How do Mounjaro and OzEmpic work?

Mounjaro is not insulin, it is a type of drug that is called a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.

Mounjaro is the first GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist drug. This drug works by activating two receptors called GLP -1 and GIP, so that the levels of Incretins – hormones in the body can be increased.

It works by helping your body produce more insulin when needed. It also reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver, or sugar, and slows down how quickly the food is digested. It all helps in reducing blood sugar levels and HBA1C.

Meanwhile, the ozmpic perfectly targets the GLP -1 receptor to release insulin and slowly empty gastric, which promotes satiety and reduces blood sugar levels.

  • Mounjaro: Aims both GLP-1 and GIP receptors to regulate blood sugar, promote insulin secretion and suppress hunger.
  • OzEmpic: works by activating GLP-1 receptors, which helps to increase insulin production in response to food and low glucagon levels.

Weight Loss: Maunjaro vs. Ozampic

The clinical trial directly compared Munjaro to ozmpic when drugs are used for weight loss. Munjaro is not approved for use as a weight loss drug by Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Both drugs can be prescribed off-labeled for weight loss, but are approved only for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

The ozmpic is also approved to reduce the risk of severe cardiovascular problems.

In an American study of tirzepetides in participants with obesity, known as the Sarmount -1 clinical test, Maunjaro led the lowest dose (15mg) and average weight loss at the highest dose (15mg) and 15.4 kg at the lowest dose (5mg) in 72 weeks. Additionally, one of the three patients lost more than 25 percent of his body weight, much higher than 1.5 percent of the Placebo group.

Comment: The FDA has approved Maunjaro for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe Mounaro off-labeled for weight loss. Off-labeled drugs are used when the drug approved by an FDA is prescribed for a purpose, for which it is approved.

A notable study that used ozmpic (semglutide) for weight loss is phase 5 tests. The study consisted of adults who were overweight or thick and demonstrated the consequences of significant weight loss.

In the week 104, participants of the Semaglutide group reduced the average weight of 15.2 percent from baseline compared to a loss of 2.6 percent in the Placebo group. This resulted in a treatment difference of 12.6 percent marks, which highlights the efficacy of semaglutide for adequate and continuous weight loss.

Additionally, another cohort study mentioned in the National Library of Medicine has shown that patients treated with semaglutide lost 5.9 percent in 3 months and 10.9 percent in 6 months, and supported its effectiveness to reduce overweight.

Both Ozapic and Munjaro have warned. A boxing warning is the most serious warning from FDA.

Effectiveness: Maunjaro vs. Ozampic

In clinical trials, mounjaro (tirzepetide) has demonstrated better efficacy on ozmpic (semglutide) in the management of blood sugar levels, such as studies such as Phase 3 cross -2 tests show that Moonzaro has decreased by 2 percent to 2.3 percent compared to 1.9 percent compared to 1.9 percent.
