Chhaya Kadam has reacted to the backlash on social media over her other film All We Imagine As Light not being selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025.

Actress Chaaya Kadam, whose Kiran Rao’s film Missing Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry to next year’s Oscars, has reacted to her other film All We Imagine As Light not being selected. The actress, who played Manju Mai in Missing Ladies, said in an interview to India Today that she was happy that the film was included in the Oscars, but she also felt “bad” that Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light lost out in the Oscar race. ‘This is a proud moment for me’

Talking about Missing Ladies’ entry to the Oscars, she said, “I am very happy and excited. What else can I say? It is a proud moment for me that our film Missing Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars. On the other hand, my other film All We Imagine As Light was also selected by France as a potential entry for the Oscars 2025. I have just come to Paris for the premiere.”

‘I would have loved to see both films at the Oscars’

Chhaya took to social media to address the criticism that her other film All We Imagine As Light was not selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. She said, “I am happy for Missing Ladies but at the same time I feel a little bad for Payal’s film. Now that the decision has been taken by the big people of the film federation, I have no say in it. I would have loved to see both the films at the Oscars.”

Kiran Rao’s film ‘Missing Ladies’ is India’s official entry

The Film Federation of India announced in Chennai on Monday that Kiran Rao’s film Missing Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars. The news has sent X (formerly known as Twitter) into a tizzy.

The Hindi film, a light-hearted satire on patriarchy, was selected from a list of 29 films, which included Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal, Malayalam National Award winner Aattam and Cannes winner All We Imagine as Light. Many wanted to see All We Imagine as Light as India’s official Oscar entry.

An x user said, “Indian Oscar jury continues its stupidity and chooses Missing Ladies for Oscars instead of Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light…” In May 2024, All We Imagine As Light created history as it became the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
