Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Saturday said the state School Education Board will conduct two Class 10 examinations from next year.
Sangma told PTI that the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will conduct two Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations (SSLC) in 2025.
He said a proposal to amend the Meghalaya School Education Board Regulations for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination 2011 was approved by the state Cabinet on Friday.

The move to conduct two SSLC exams is to provide a second chance to students who could not clear the board exams.
“Starting in 2025, MBOSE will conduct two SSLC board exams each year. The first exam will be held in February or early March, and students who fail in all or some subjects in the second exam will get a chance to retake the exam within one to two months, which will be held in May,” Sangma said.
The Education Minister said the move is in line with the ongoing implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and is designed to aid students by reducing the time wasted between attempts.
The Cabinet had also approved the decision to eliminate optional papers or ‘Best of Five Papers’ from the academic year 2026-2027, which means by 2026-2027 all students will have to pass all six subjects in the board exams.
