Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday made several announcements regarding its plans for Gujarat, Suzuki Motor Corp President Toshihiro Suzuki made these announcements during his address at the inaugural ceremony of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024. In Gandhinagar.
The carmaker’s plans for the state also include a second manufacturing facility in Hansalpur Becharaji, in addition to the existing one.
“We will invest Rs 35,000 crore for the second plant, which will produce another ten lakh units per year. The new plant is expected to open in financial year 2028-29. Details of the location and the models to be produced will be shared in due course, Suzuki said.
Therefore, the annual production capacity of the automaker from Gujarat will increase to 2 million (20 lakh) units, with both the existing and upcoming facilities contributing equally.
Suzuki also announced that the group’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) will also arrive from Suzuki Motor Gujarat by the end of the year.
“We plan to sell this model not only in India, but also export to Japan and Europe. We will also invest in expanding BEV in the future Suzuki Motor will spend Rs 3200 crore to add a new fourth production line in Gujarat, which can produce 2.5 lakh units per year,” he said, elaborating that this fourth line is expected to come up in FY 2026-27.
He further said that already, the producer has started construction of four biogas plants in the state in partnership with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Banas Dairy.
Maruti Suzuki India, a subsidiary of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp, leads the Indian passenger car segment with 42% market share. Suzuki Motor has about 58 percent stake in MSI.
