Malaika’s father died on Wednesday morning, reports news agency PTI. A police official told PTI that Anil allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of a building in the Bandra area. Police arrived at the spot and rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead before reaching there.
The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, the official said, adding that the matter is being investigated. “It is true that Malaika’s father died this morning. He did not commit suicide, it is an accident. They are all in shock as he did not have any illness or anything like that,” a source told PTI. The police ‘panchnama’ will make things clear, the source added.
However, Mumbai Police told the press, “We are investigating everything… prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide, we are investigating further.”
Malaika’s parents divorced when she was 11 years old, and she moved to Chembur with her mother and sister Amrita. Her mother, Joyce Polycarp, is a Malayali Christian, and her father was a Punjabi Hindu from the Indian border town of Fazilka who worked in the Indian Merchant Navy.
