The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it may contest some seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held next month. Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is part of the India faction of the opposition. In Maharashtra, the faction’s three constituents—Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP)—are contesting under the banner of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) against the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

Addressing a press conference in Kudal in Maharashtra’s coastal Sindhudurg district on Friday, AAP’s Goa unit president Amit Palekar said his party is looking to strengthen its base in the Konkan belt, especially Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts and Kolhapur in western Maharashtra. Working on doing. Informed.

The party has grown significantly in the Konkan region, he said, as the local population is looking at an alternative to BJP’s Union Minister Narayan Rane and his “vengeance politics”.

Palekar said, “AAP is standing strongly with its India Bloc allies for the Maharashtra elections to be held on November 20, but if political developments go well, the party may claim some seats where it is in a winning position.” ” He said, “Along with Kolhapur, there is a lot of pressure from local party workers in Sindhudurg also to field party candidates in the upcoming elections.”

Palekar, who is the party’s Sindhudurg district in-charge, said Konkan residents are respectful and cannot tolerate the “arrogant language” of the Rane family.

“Clean and honest politics is the need of the hour and only dedicated politicians can do it,” he said.

Elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly are scheduled to be held in a single phase on November 20 and counting of votes will take place on November 23.

Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister in June 2022 after the split in Shiv Sena and faced various challenges while leading the coalition government. His journey from starting out as a rickshaw puller to reaching the highest political position in Maharashtra is considered a remarkable Dalit story.
