A day after announcing guarantees for women across India, Congress issued five guarantees for the country’s farmers. The five guarantees include a promise to legalize the minimum support price (MSP) and amend the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rules in favor of farmers. This announcement came before the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Congress has 5 guarantees for farmers:
1. GST-Free: Congress said that the GST system will be amended to get rid of taxation on agricultural commodities.
2. Import Export Policy: The Congress will formulate and implement an import-export policy for agricultural commodities, “which will give paramount importance to the protection of the interests and concerns of farmers”. The party said the policy would be “stable and predictable and based on the interests of farmers”.
3. Bima Suraksha (Insurance): The PM Crop Insurance Scheme will be redesigned to guarantee payments to farmers directly into their bank accounts within 30 days of crop loss.
4. Loan Waiver: A permanent Agricultural Loan Waiver Commission will be set up to waive off loans of farmers and determine the amount of loan waiver required.
5. Right Price (Right Price): MSP will be given legal status. A special law to this effect will be passed in Parliament. MSP will be decided according to the formula of Dr. MS Swaminathan Commission.
Congress leader sharing details of these guarantees Rahul Gandhi wrote X (earlier known as Twitter, “My salute to all the donors of the country … Congress aims to make the life of farmers who irrigate the soil of the country with their sweat and these five historical decisions have taken steps. Are) in that direction.”
The Congress has so far announced guarantees for the women, youth and tribals ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections. “We have announced ‘Paanch Nyay’ to empower India: Yuva Nyay, Bhagidari Nyay, Naari Nyay, Kisan Nyay and Shramik Nyay,” the Congress said.
Congress’s five guarantees for women include 1 lakh cash transfer every year and 50 percent reservation for women in government jobs.
