Loan of 400 dollars turned into 6000… Indian man tortured for not repaying the loan

Singapore. In Singapore, a 47-year-old Indian-origin man was sentenced to 5 months in jail for harassing a man over non-payment of loan. This person had forced the loanee to take off his clothes and shave his beard and hair.

The charge of intentionally causing harm was also taken into consideration while sentencing Nadesan Pillai. Pillai’s two Indian-origin friends, Jai Shawn Fernandez and Jude Prabhu Daviyas Pathi, have also been charged with criminal intimidation.

Singapore’s local newspaper ‘Today’ reported on Friday that a friend of Pillai had made a video of this humiliating act with the victim. The newspaper did not mention the case against Pillai’s two friends.

Sublok Prosecutor (DPP) Andre Chong told the court that the victim had borrowed S$400 from Jai and had agreed to pay him S$700 by March 26 last year, but he only paid S$200 and Jai kept increasing the interest. Due to which he had a debt of about 6,000 Singapore dollars by 13 May.

DPP Chong said Jai asked Nadesan and Jude to meet him and the victim at a bar. The trio beat up the victim at the bar and took him to a warehouse where he was asked to take off his clothes and do sit-ups. After this, all three of them took him to a barber and asked the barber to shave him bald and cut his beard. Jai had made a video of this incident.

The victim lodged a police report of the incident on May 29 and Jai was arrested the same day. Jude was arrested on July 25 and Nadesan was absconding till January 24 this year. Nadesan has been sentenced to five months in jail from the date of his arrest.
