BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Thursday hit back at Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and former MP Simranjit Singh Mann for his derogatory remarks. Mann was reacting to the recent controversy surrounding Ranaut’s comments on the farmers’ protest.
When a journalist sought his comment on the Mandi MP’s remarks, the 79-year-old politician made a derogatory remark referring to ‘rape’.
Posting a clip of Mann’s interview, actor-turned-politician Singh said this country will never stop trivialising rape.
“Looks like this country will never stop trivialising rape, today this senior politician compared rape to riding a bicycle,” Ranaut said on microblogging website X (formerly Twitter).
She also said that rape and violence against women are “deeply rooted in the psyche of this patriarchal nation.”
He said, “No wonder that rape and violence against women for fun is so deeply ingrained in the psyche of this patriarchal nation that it is used to tease or mock women, even if the person is a high profile filmmaker or a politician.”

The Mandi MP had recently stoked a controversy by saying that if the leadership was not strong enough, the farmers’ protest could have led to a Bangladesh-like problem in the country.
Following Ranaut’s statement, the BJP also distanced itself from the statement and asked her to refrain from making such statements in the future.
He had alleged that bodies were hanging and rapes were taking place during the farmers’ protest against the repealed agricultural laws.
‘An insult to our daughters’
Haryana State Women Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia also condemned Mann’s remarks. She said that making such a statement is an insult to our daughters.
Mann, a former Indian Police Service officer and a supporter of Khalistan, was in Karnal to attend a party event.
Haryana Assembly elections are being held on October 1.
Mann resigned from the IPS in 1984 after Operation Bluestar to flush out terrorists hiding in the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Tarn Taran in 1989, from Sangrur in 1999 and again from the same constituency in the 2022 by-election.
