Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election: The Election Commission of India on September 5 issued a notification for filing of nomination papers by candidates for the third and final phase of the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Voting for 40 seats of the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held in the third phase on October 1. The last date for filing nominations for the third phase is September 12. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on September 13. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 17.
According to the notification, the voting will take place on October 1 from 7 am to 6 pm.
Voting for the 90-member assembly in Jammu and Kashmir is being held in three phases. The first phase of voting will be held on September 18, while the second phase will be held on September 25 and October 1.
Counting of votes will take place on October 8.
The election, being held for the first time in a decade, is expected to witness a multi-cornered contest for the 90 seats in the erstwhile state. The National Conference and the Congress are contesting in alliance, while the People’s Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are the two other major players.
