Date:

The strength test of the new government of Jharkhand is likely to be held on Monday. The Champai Soren-led coalition government in Jharkhand is all set to win the trust vote during a special two-day assembly session on February 5, news agency PTI reported.

A day before the trust vote, MLAs from the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance returned to Ranchi. He had been staying at a resort in Hyderabad for the last three days to foil any attempt at poaching by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Champai Soren, who was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Friday, claimed the support of 47 MLAs of the ruling JMM-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alliance. Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted that Champai Soren has the support of 48 MLAs.

What do Jharkhand Assembly figures really tell?

There are 81 members in Jharkhand Assembly. A political party needs the support of 41 MLAs (majority, half-way mark) to form the government in Jharkhand. So will the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance be able to win the floor test on Monday by garnering the support of more than 41 MLAs?

If nothing goes wrong, there is every possibility of Champai Soren winning the trust vote on Monday. Simply put, if the MLAs currently supporting Champai Soren remain committed to him, he will have no problem in proving majority in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, BJP and allies have 29 MLAs. ndtv informed of. In the 2014 Jharkhand Assembly elections, BJP formed the Jharkhand government with the help of All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU).

In the next Jharkhand Assembly election, 2019, after the JMM-led 3-party alliance won the majority in the 81-member assembly, JMM leader Hemant Soren returned to power in the state.

However, on January 31, Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the land fraud case. He was sent to five-day ED custody on February 2. Meanwhile, Champai Soren took charge as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
