Mohammed Shami was slammed by many people on social media after criticizing a fasting while playing in CT25.

Mohammed Shami found himself in a soup when he saw drinking water and did not observe a fast while playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. His actions came under criticism of religious leader Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi. Now veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has commented on the ongoing issue, which is siding with cricketers in his latest post on X (East Twitter). Taking his X account, Javed Akhtar wrote, “Shami saheb, do not give a shame to those reactionary Bigotted Idiots, who have a problem with your drinking water in a burning afternoon in a cricket ground in Dubai.” This is none of his business. You are one of the great Indian team that we are wishing all of you and our entire team. ,

About dispute

The President of the All India Muslim Jamaat called Mohammed Shami a “criminal” not to fast during Ramadan, and said that his work was against religious law. He said, “By not keeping ‘fast’, he has committed a crime. He should not do so. In the eyes of Sharia, he is a criminal. He will have to answer God.”

Apart from Javed Akhtar, Shami’s cousin, Dr. Mumtaz also came out in support of the cricketer and said that many Pakistani cricketers have not chosen fasting while playing. He said, “He is representing the nation. It is derogatory that such statements are being made about him. We would advise Shami to ignore these distractions and focus on his match on 9 March. “Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) chief Rohit Pawar also defended Shami amidst ongoing controversies.

Shami played a key role in India’s victory over Australia in the semi -finals of the tournament in Dubai, scoring 3 wickets for 48 runs in 10 overs.
