There are some villages in India, where cultural and natural heritage flourishes along with permanent practices.

Dhordo, gujarat

The Best Tourism Village was named in 2023 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Dhordo has converted from a remote border village to a stirring center for culture, art and environment friendly life. Known for its traditional crafts such as embroidery, weaving and tie-dye, Dhordo provides an opportunity to experience the rich heritage of Gujarat, celebrating rural development and cultural protection. This village is moving forward when it talks about nurturing rural areas, protecting the scenario, protecting cultural diversity and celebrating traditional cuisine. It is located about 400 km from Ahmedabad.

Mavalinong is located in the Khasi hills of Meghalaya. In 2003, it was named ‘Clear Village in Asia’ by Discover India Magazine.

Raghurajpur, Odisha

The Heritage Crafts village in Odisha is dubbed to Raghurjpur, which is famous for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Most of the residents of this strange village are involved in artisans crafts. These artists are a generous mix of Patchirra painters, traditional masks makers, stone statue cars, wooden toy manufacturers, and paper mache sculptors. Petachira refers to traditional, fabric-based scroll painting in Odisha and West Bengal as well as parts of Bangladesh. Other art forms popular here include lock-address (palm leaf engraving) and traditional mask-building. Located about 11 kilometers from Puri, there is an ideal day-yatra destination from both Raghurjpur Puri and Bhubaneswar.

Mavalinong, Meghalaya

The surname “Gods on Garden,” is located in the Khasi hills of Mavalinong Meghalaya. In 2003, it was nominated by the Khoj Bharat magazine in ‘Swachh Gram’ in Asia, before the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Located about 100 kilometers from Shillong, the villages are known for their environmentally friendly approach, acting as a dustbin in the area with a cone -shaped basket. The villagers clean the communal places, ensuring that the villages remain impeccable. Mawlynnong’s visit not only offers a clean environment, but also gives a chance to experience traditional culture and surrounding forests and surprising root bridges. The name “Mavalinong” means “cavity in a rock” (formed by rainwater), and you will find many such rocks in the village. As tourism grows, local people benefit from small businesses like homestay, souvenir stalls, eateries and guiding services. The nearest railhead from this village is in Guwahati, which is about 170 km away.

Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

The Ziro Valley gets its name from Ziro village before the international border with China. Ziro, located in Arunachal Pradesh, is home to the Aptani tribe and is often called “indexed paradise” due to green paddy fields. A UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its poly-culture and water management techniques in the village terrace fields. Located at a distance of 1,500 meters above sea level, Ziro is a popular destination for trekking and cultural experiences. The nearest major city, Naharlagun, is about 100 km from it.
