The Congress-led opposition on Tuesday moved a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar, the first such incident in the country’s parliamentary history.
Congress MP (Rajya Sabha) and general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, said all parties belonging to the India Group have no option but to formally move a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar for his “extremely partisan manner”. He is conducting the proceedings of the House.
“This has been a very painful decision for India’s parties, but they had to take this step in the interest of parliamentary democracy,” he said.
The signatories included members of parliament representing Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Samajwadi Party, DMK and RJD.
Ramesh said, the proposal has just been submitted to the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha.
The proposal was reportedly presented after uproar in both houses of Parliament on Tuesday. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs and opposition members clashed over various issues including the alleged links between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and American businessman George Soros.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Houses were adjourned for the day due to uproar during the winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25.
Given the numbers in favor of the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the motion against the Rajya Sabha Speaker is expected to fall in the House. The India Bloc opposition was planning to bring a resolution against Dhankhar for some time. By taking it forward on Tuesday, the Indian faction wants to send a message against the Rajya Sabha Speaker, alleging that as the presiding officer of the House, he does not give its leaders a chance to speak in the House.
BJP’s allegations against Sonia Gandhi
The BJP is attempting to respond to Adani’s bribery allegations by associating Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi with American billionaire George Soros. Sonia is a Rajya Sabha MP, while Rahul is the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
On Monday, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju claimed that veteran Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s alleged links with George Soros is a “serious” issue, and asked all political parties, including the Congress, to unite against “anti-India forces”. Urged.
A day earlier, the saffron party had alleged that Sonia Gandhi has links with an organization funded by the George Soros Foundation, which has ‘supported’ the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation.
