The high-stakes assembly elections in Haryana are finally coming to an end, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) set to sweep the state for the third time with a huge majority of seats. According to Election Commission of India data as of 4.00 pm, the party is leading in 50 constituencies, well above the majority mark of 46.
In a major upset, the Indian National Congress, which was seen making a comeback in the state in exit polls, has managed to lead in only 35 seats. However, its vote share is slightly less than that of BJP. Congress has got 39.06% votes, while BJP has got 39.87% votes.
The BJP’s lead is 10 seats more than the last elections in 2019, when it had to form a post-poll alliance to form the government.
The BJP has also strengthened its position and maintained a significant lead in many constituencies. The party is leading in 20 constituencies by a margin of 5-15%, and in 15 seats by a margin of 15-30%.

For women, the Haryana election was another election with poor representation. Out of 100 women who contested the elections, only 13 were able to walk on the path to victory. From Pataudi, BJP’s Bimla Choudhary is leading by a huge margin of 29.47%, from Hissar Savitri Jindal is leading by a margin of almost 17%. Former wrestler Vinesh, the main candidate from Julana, is leading by a margin of 4.3%.
Voting was held in a single phase on October 5 for all 90 seats.
After the BJP’s disappointment in the Lok Sabha elections, the Haryana results are a blow to the party, and could set a comfortable stage for the upcoming key elections: Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Delhi and Bihar.
