The heat is increasing very fast, and now the afternoon sun has started getting harsher. After staying in the sun for a long time, one starts sweating, and that is why the house has also started getting hot. The fan is now running at full speed, but the day is not far when very soon AC and cooler will be required. However, in some houses the cooler has also started running. If you also have an AC, then obviously it would have been switched off throughout the winter, and that is why we have to take care of some special things before the summer starts. Let us know how we should prepare the AC before the summer starts so that we do not have to pay for it.
Wipe the unit:- Any appliance needs some maintenance after a long time. It is a good practice to clean any dust or debris before turning on the AC unit. Use a wet towel to wipe the blades, and also clean dust from the outdoor unit. If there is water inside the unit, wipe it off with a clean, dry cloth before turning on the device. If you turn on the AC without cleaning, it is possible that dust may spread throughout the room.
Cleaning the condenser coil:- The condenser of an air conditioner is usually located in the outdoor unit. This helps your AC extract hot air from inside your home and transport it to the unit to cool it. If your condenser unit was covered during the winter season, remove the cover, dust the unit, and make sure there are no leaves, twigs, or other debris stuck to the fan or fins.
Please note that cleaning the coil yourself is not recommended, and you should always seek the help of an expert or technician to open the unit.
Filter Cleaning:- If your AC is left open for the winter season, then there is a possibility that your filter may also need to be cleaned thoroughly. Dirty or broken filters can reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner.
Carefully open the front of your unit (note that some units may also require a screwdriver) and remove the filter sheet. Use a soft brush or wet cloth to clean the filter from accumulated dust. Doing this from time to time only ensures clean air circulation in your room.
It is important to check the coolant line: Coolant lines are PVC pipes or flexible tubes that run between the indoor and outdoor units of the AC. However, much of this is hidden deep within you. You can check for broken insulation. If there is any suspicion of any damage, call a professional technician to get it repaired before turning on the AC.
Last check: Once you have checked all these components, plug in your AC and turn it on for a test run. Once switched on, your air conditioner will start cooling within minutes. When running the unit for the first time, there is a possibility of any foul odors trapped inside the unit. Leave your windows open for about 5 minutes to get fresh air in your room again. If cold air does not come after a while then it is possible that the gas may have leaked, for this you will have to show the AC to a technician.
