The state of Madhya Pradesh is popular across the country for its innovation and initiatives to make our environment and surroundings a better place. In an exclusive report by AyraNews24x7 Local, a school successfully conducted an experiment where students and teachers made organic fertilizer from waste materials collected from their homes.
Students of Jyotiba Phule CM Rise School in Damoh district, with the help of their teachers, participated in an experiment where they collected garbage from their homes and used it to make organic fertilizer for farmers.
The students are from rural areas of the region and with the help of their teachers, they have built a chamber made of bricks and mortar on the school premises. Along with students, teachers also brought garbage from their homes in polythene. Then he had to collect all this waste in the chamber he built, which was then converted into organic manure. Another way to make organic fertilizer is with the help of dry leaves, grass and vegetable peels.
According to the report, the increasing and continuous use of chemical fertilizers in farming is the main reason for land becoming barren. Chemical fertilizers give rise to more bacteria and microorganisms, which eat away the substances in the soil, making it very difficult for plants to survive. Another harmful effect of chemical fertilizers is that they pollute groundwater with elements like nitrogen, phosphorus and pesticides. This is a cause of great concern because groundwater is the main source of water in many areas of the country. Therefore, instead of these chemicals, if one switches to organic manure, it helps in making the soil better for plantation and improves its quality. This initiative has been seen in CM Rise Higher Secondary School.
