‘Impressed by PM Modi’s policies’: Former Punjab minister quits Congress and joins BJP

Former Punjab minister Harminder Singh Jassi quit the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday, just ahead of the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. His decision to join the BJP came days ahead of the seventh phase of polling in Punjab.

Jassi joined the BJP on Thursday, May 23, in the presence of Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar at the BJP headquarters at DDU Marg in New Delhi.

After joining the BJP on Thursday, former Congress leader Jassi said, “I have been watching his (PM Modi) policies for the last several years. He developed the country and improved India’s image all over the world. I have joined the BJP today, inspired and impressed by PM Modi’s policies…”

Punjab will have polling for all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in a single phase, with the seventh and final phase going to polls on June 1 in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala constituencies.

This year’s Lok Sabha elections began on April 19 for 102 seats in 21 states. After this, the second phase was held on April 26 and in the third phase on May 7, voting will be held for 94 seats in 12 states.

The fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 13, covering 96 seats, the fifth phase will be held on May 20, covering 49 seats, while the sixth phase will be held on May 25, covering 57 seats in 7 states.

The sixth phase on May 25 will see polling for 58 seats in six states and two union territories, including all seven parliamentary seats in Delhi.
