Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras once again topped the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025.
Whereas IIT Madras IIT Madras said in a press release on Thursday, “At the top of the ‘Samagra’ category, the institute ranked number 1 in the ‘Engineering’ category for the tenth year for the tenth year.
It also achieved the number 1 rank in the ‘Innovation’ category (which was previously known as the firm ranking of institutions on innovation achievements), its number 2 position in the same category last year improved.
In particular, IIT Madras also secured the first rank in the category ‘Stability development target’ (SDG)Which was introduced this year.
Director of IIT Madras Professor V Kamakoti said, “Being a topper is a result of a collective, harmonious and focused team’s effort. Thanks to the Almighty for blessing us with such a wonderful team. We pledge to put together in our best efforts for Wiksit India@2047.”

Nirf 2025: Top 10 India Rankings | ‘Overall’ category
According to the Ministry of Education, here are the top 10 institutions and universities in the ‘Samagra’ category:

Meanwhile, among universities, the top location has been obtained by IISC Bangalore with Jawaharlal Nehru University in second place. The third and fourth positions have been obtained by Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Jamia Millia Islamia.

The Hindu College of Delhi University is topped in colleges, followed by Miranda House and Hans Raj College. Kirori Mal College is in fourth place, while St. Stephen College has finished fifth.

Among open universities, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is at the top position, followed by Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru.
