Instagram took steps to deal with sexual harassment.

New Delhi. Social media platform Instagram said it is introducing new measures to protect young people and tackle sexual harassment, including a feature that will automatically blur nudity in direct messages (DMs). The social media platform said in a blog post on Thursday that it is testing these features as part of its campaign to fight sexual scams and various forms of “image abuse” and make it harder for criminals to contact teenagers.

Sexual harassment, or ‘sextortion’, involves convincing a person to send explicit photographs online and then threatening the victim with money or to make the photographs public if they do not engage in sexual relations. Instagram and other social media companies have faced criticism for not doing enough to protect youth. Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive (CEO) of Instagram owner Meta Platforms, had apologized to the parents of victims of such abuse during a Senate hearing of the US Parliament earlier this year.

This facility will not be available on Facebook and WhatsApp
Meta also owns Facebook and WhatsApp but will not add the nudity blurring feature to messages sent on those platforms. Instagram said criminals often use direct messages to ask for “intimate photos.” To combat this, it will soon begin testing a nudity protection feature that will blur any photos containing nudity and encourage people to think twice before sending nude photos.

insta statement
Instagram said, “This feature is designed not only to protect people from unwanted nudity in their DMs, but also to protect them from scammers who may send nude photos of themselves to trick people. Are.” This feature will be automatically turned on globally for teens under 18 years of age. Adult users will get a notification encouraging them to activate it.
