In a hip-hop industry full of feuds and diss tracks, Ice Cube has reaffirmed the No Vaseline status 33 years later. The 54-year-old rapper said his 1991 song targeted at NWA is better than any other diss track. This comes amid the growing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, with the former releasing a blistering track- Not Like Us attacking the latter.
Ice Cube Delivers The Best Diss Track Ever
During a recent live performance, the Straight Outta Compton star shut down discussion about Lamar’s latest fiery track. Cube also named other fellow rappers and their diss tracks. A video of his comments surfaced on social media on Tuesday, which quickly went viral as netizens expressed their opinions, most of whom were in agreement.
Cube revealed which song is his favorite, saying, “[People say] tupac [Hit Em Up] But it’s not. No, Cube, wait. It’s Nas with Ether. I like Nas, but it’s not that. Maybe it’s Kendrick Lamar, maybe it’s him. I like his songs, but No Vaseline is the best diss song in the history of hip-hop.”
The Friday actor then clarified his stance on the subject, saying, “I’ll tell you why. An MC, myself. I took out four motherfuckers and the manager. You can’t do better than that. We did that 30 years ago. So, as of today, I got nothing but love for N.W.A.”
Hip-hop fans seemed to agree with the Bow Down rapper as they flooded social media with comments proving their approval. One wrote on X, which used to be Twitter, “Eh this is like dry hate No Vaseline is one of the best diss tracks ever I don’t think this was ever debated. He didn’t even have to say it. Let K Dot live his moment man.”
Another fan said, “Not gonna lie. No Vaseline, Not Like Us and Hit Em Up are my top 3. I’m replacing Ether. The industry is changing tracks.” Another added, “All kids should listen to this song, all you can say is “overrated” because you weren’t there.”
