New DelhiGoogle doesn’t rely only on GPS to track your location. Many smartphone users are not aware that their Android devices also collect location data through various inbuilt apps. This technology detects your exact location using means like Wi-Fi networks, cell towers, and Bluetooth.

How does Google track location?
Wi-Fi positioning
Google uses signal data from Wi-Fi networks your device is connected to or detects. Based on signal strength, it estimates your exact location.
cell tower triangulation
Your phone connects to nearby mobile towers. Based on signal strength, Google can determine your general location.
bluetooth device
Google can track your location using signals from nearby Bluetooth devices or beacons installed in stores.
ip address
Your device gets an IP address when it connects to the Internet. Your geographical location can be estimated through this address.
sensor data
Data from sensors like accelerometer and gyroscope helps detect changes in your movement and location.
user input
This data provides greater accuracy than if you manually share your location with Google services.
How to stop Google tracking?
Manage activity settings
Go to My Activity option in your Google Account and turn off Web & App Activity and Location History.
delete data
Go to My Google Activity and select the ?Delete activity by option and delete your location data.
Adjust device settings
Turn off the Location feature in your smartphone’s settings. Also, disable Activity Control’s.
