Oscar winner Anne Hathaway may have starred alongside Nicholas Galitzine in his latest Amazon Prime Video, The Idea of You, just “for fun,” but her Hollywood journey hasn’t always been entirely sunshine and rainbows. Gracing her first solo Vanity Fair cover, she addressed the 2013 viral phenomenon ‘HateHate’, which portrayed her identity as “toxic” following her Best Supporting Actress win at the Oscars for the musical Les Miserables.
What was the rising online hatred about? Nothing. Hathaway had just won an Oscar that year, yet the career-highest moment left her frustrated by how the Internet pressured her to enjoy her moment at the top. Suddenly, everything he did was considered “annoying.” In her new Vanity Fair interview, she finally got ‘real’ about a number of issues. One of them highlights how Hollywood turned its back on the wonders of acting, but thankfully Christopher Nolan, now an Oscar winner himself, came to his rescue.

Anne Hathaway, Christopher Nolan and Interstellar Rescue
The Devil Wears Prada actor didn’t mince words when addressing the criticism he received following his 2013 Oscar win. Eventually, she began losing roles due to her alleged “toxic” personality being publicized on the Internet. “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were worried about how toxic my identity had become online,” Hathaway told Vanity Fair.
So, what changed? The best interstellar offer came his way.
“I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who didn’t care about hats and gave me the most beautiful role in one of the best movies I’ve been a part of,” Anne revealed. Recalling that life-changing moment, she wondered whether Nolan knew “he was supporting her” at the time. Still, it served as a comforting pillow for her, especially since her “career didn’t lose momentum the way it might have had she not supported (him).”
The Interstellar actress’ new film The Idea of You premiered at SXSW earlier this month. Its OTT release is scheduled for May 2, 2024 on Prime Video.
