It was a very emotional moment for ardent fans of House of the Dragon, as the second episode of the show premiered on Monday morning. The episode had a lot of ups and downs, and it ended with the devastating death of a beloved supporting character – Ser Eric Cargill. What happens in episode 2?

Fans were left shaken after the tragic death of Ser Eric Cargill (played by Luke Tittensor) in the last few minutes of the episode. He was ordered to murder Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) as his sibling, which was planned by Ser Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel), Eric’s superior. This turns into a deadly swordfight between the two brothers, which Eric wins. But seconds later he kills himself, bearing the guilt of killing his own brother.

Reactions from fans

Reacting to the scene on X, a fan wrote: “This was devastating.” Another fan commented, “Best scene of the whole series so far. OMG.” One comment read, “This was worse than blood and cheese for me.” One fan said, “My face is still swollen.”

Many fans were also upset with the character of Sir Christon Cole (Fabian Frankel), whose ridiculously terrible decision-making led to the tragedy. One fan commented, “Just watched the new episode of House of the Dragon and I just want to say… I hate Sir Christon Cole so much! I don’t like the way you walk, the way you talk. I don’t like the way you dress. I don’t like the way you sneak insults in, it’ll be straight if I catch a flight.” Another wrote, “New episode and Sir has gotten even more insufferable.”
