Noida: A total of 11 cases of HMPV have been reported so far from different states across the country. One case was confirmed in Lucknow, UP on Thursday. Due to this, now an atmosphere of fear has started creating among the people. Here we are talking only about small children and pregnant women. In this regard, Dr. Meera Pathak, a gynecologist posted at CHC Bhangel, Sector-110, Noida, has recently given important advice to pregnant women and small children to protect themselves from HMPV (Human Meta-Pneumo Virus). He told that the symptoms of HMPV are usually like cold, cough and fever. Symptoms of infection appear within three to five days of infection. Especially pregnant women, children under five years of age, and infants younger than six months or those who are already suffering from any disease have been told to take extra precautions against this virus.
What is HMPV?
Dr. Meera Pathak, while talking to Local 18, said that this virus is not new and most of the people have already been infected by it. He told that HMPV is not as dangerous as Corona virus, because immunity has already developed in people’s bodies. A study conducted by AIIMS has found that about 12 percent of common cold cases are associated with HMPV. Although, it is not fatal, but prevention and vigilance is very important.
Symptoms and prevention measures
Dr. Pathak told in an interview given to Local 18 that the symptoms of HMPV are like cold, cough and mild fever. If anyone experiences any of these symptoms, they should get tested immediately and take necessary precautions. This virus spreads through coughing, sneezing and handshake. At present, there is an increase in the cases of viral infections, hence it is important not to panic but take precautions.
Important advice for pregnant women
Dr. Pathak has advised pregnant women to take special precautions. He said that HMPV does not reach the fetus through the placenta, but if a pregnant woman has a viral infection, the risk of miscarriage may increase in the first and second trimester. In such a situation, avoid going to crowded places. Maintain distance from public places and shopping. Plant oxygenated plants at home and use air purifiers. Do not eat outside food. Include fruits, green and seasonal vegetables, protein and Vitamin C rich foods in your diet and take care of the cleanliness of your surroundings along with washing hands frequently.
no need to panic
Dr. Pathak said that serious complications are seen in only 1% of HMPV cases. Therefore there is no need to panic. This virus can be avoided by adopting correct precautions and taking doctor’s advice. If pregnant women and parents of small children do not ignore the symptoms of this virus and take timely precautions, they can keep themselves and their families safe from it.
