With research centers in Sagar, students can continue their studies within the city.
Presently, more than 60 students are pursuing PhD in 13 different subjects in Government Girls PG College, Sagar.
Students of Government Autonomous Girls PG College of Excellence, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, also known as Girls Degree College, Sagar, can expect some positive developments from the state higher education department.
According to News18, women students will soon get the opportunity to pursue PhD in all 15 subjects, as research centers in English and Geography only need to complete the formalities. With a PhD, students can advance to positions such as assistant professor, professor, or librarian in universities.
Presently, more than 60 students are pursuing PhD in 13 different subjects in Government Girls PG College, Sagar. The establishment of research centers in Sagar means that students will no longer need to go to Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University. This change is significant as many female students drop out of their MA programs midway due to distance. With research centers in Sagar, students can continue their studies within the city.
Dr. Rashmi Mathur, Head of the Geography Department, stressed the importance of setting up a research center in the college. Currently, research centers in Geography and English are located at Chhatrasal University, requiring students to travel approximately 200 kilometers to Chhatarpur. Dr. Mathur said this distance contributes to the mid-term dropout rate among female students. However, establishment of research centers in Sagar will solve this problem.
Recently a research inspection team from Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University, Chhatarpur visited the Department of English and Geography in Girls College. Dr. Mathur said that the team assured the students that the research center would be approved soon on the basis of the facilities found during the inspection.
Girls Degree College is already running PhD courses in various fields including Hindi, Commerce, Home Science, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Political Science, Psychology, History, Economics and Library Science. With the addition of English and Geography, girl students will soon be eligible to pursue PhD in all 15 subjects offered by the college.
The Government Autonomous Girls PG College of Excellence, Sagar, established by Sagar Municipal Corporation in 1964, was renamed as Girls Degree College, Sagar in the same year. In 1978, the Government of Madhya Pradesh took it over and gave it the status of a government college.
