With the onset of summer, heat wave alert has already been issued in many areas of the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on its Alert issued. Heat wave is identified when the maximum temperature of a place reaches 40 degrees Celsius or more. This is when weather poses a threat to human health. IMD on its X profile has already mentioned about heat wave conditions in many parts of the country.

As temperatures are rising, here are some preventive tips that should be followed.
How to protect yourself from extreme heat?
keep calm: It’s important to avoid fitted clothing, and instead choose cotton, loose clothing to allow ventilation. We should use fan or cooler throughout the day. We should keep the skin wet or keep a wet cloth to keep the skin hydrated.
stay hydrated: We should keep drinking water to keep ourselves hydrated throughout the day. While working outside in extreme heat or during workouts and physical activity, we should keep drinking water before we feel thirsty.
plan ahead: We need to plan the day in advance, staying indoors during the hottest part of the day and going out when it’s cooler.
be prepared: We should be aware of how hot and humid it is going to be. We should keep an emergency kit at home in case someone falls ill. Oral rehydration salt packets, water bottles, towels and thermometers should be kept at home.
keep the house cool: We should keep the house cool with black curtains, fans and AC so that we can feel comfortable inside the house. We should open the curtains at night so that cool air can come inside.
